Important Setup Notes

The following points will help you maximize your Incite Media Assistant setup:

1. Codecs and Proxy Files (AVI)
2. Incite Media Assistant, Quicktime and RealMedia
3. Audio Playback
4. Customizing and Saving Window Arrangements

Codecs and Proxy Files (AVI)

Without the need of dedicated boardsets, Incite Media Assistant lets you preview, log and edit all
your media using nothing but the appropriate file format codec. So, not only can you view
standard PC formats like Indeo and Cinepak, Incite Media Assistant can preview heavier file
formats like MJPEG, DV25, DV50 etc. All you need is the proper codec installed on your
system. Codecs are generally bundled with other programs or hardware or else can be
purchased directly from independent vendors.

IMPORTANT:
If the proper codec is not installed you will not be able to view media files captured or
created with the specific codec.

To work with MJPEG and DTV formats you will need Matrox codecs for Win98,NT,2000

For MPEG4 you will need MS Media Player

DIVX -mpeg4 codec

Intel Indeo 5 codec

Incite Media Assistant, Quicktime and RealMedia

Incite Media Assistant is not designed for the viewing of RealMedia or QuickTime media files. As
a result, these types of files will not be displayed in the Catalog List (even if they are present in
the media file folder) or playable in the Monitors or on the Storyboard.

However, Incite Media Assistant can convert to both QuickTime and RealMedia formats. Incite
Media Assistant can also create QuickTime movies from the storyboard. To convert into
QuickTime you will need QuickTime 4.0 installed on your system (QuickTime 3.0 is not
sufficient). You need no additional programs for the conversion of AVI into RealMedia. However,
you will want to download and install RealPlayer for viewing the results.

IMPORTANT:
If QuickTime 4.0 is not installed, you will not be able to access the QT Converter or Make
QT Movie window (the commands for launching these tools will be gray as an
indication).

Audio Playback

If Incite and Incite Media Assistant are installed on the same system, they will not be able to
use DigiSuite for audio playback simultaneously. We recommend that you install a sound card
and that it is configured as the preferred device under Control Panel/Multimedia (Audio tab). If not,
you can easily disable Incite’s use of the hardware using Incite’s Disable Audio command
(letting Incite Media Assistant access the hardware without having to close Incite).

Customizing and Saving Window Arrangements

Incite Media Assistant uses "floating" windows so you can arrange their position on the screen
as you like. To help you work quickly with floating windows, Incite Media Assistant provides
three useful tools: The Win Set Bar, the Win Bar, Move Splitter Buttons.

The Win Barprovides three buttons corresponding to each of the three principle windows.
Pressing one of these buttons will bring the respective window immediately to the foreground
(left mouse click) or send it to the background (right mouse click). Once you have established a
certain layout for the windows, one which you find comfortable, you can add the layout as one of
your preset options using the Win Set Bar. The Move Splitter buttons are tools that quickly
collapse or expand the "splitters" or dividers of the Catalog window.

Incite Media Assistant’s interface can also be modified to accommodate slower computers.
Disabling "GraphicStyle on Incite Media Assistant’s View menu may help speed up response
time. You can also customize the layout of the screen and other display options using the
Catalog Display Preferences window.
