Pulsar XTC

XTC

Ultimate Performance for Audio Sequencers

The XTC studio effects
Pulsar XTC incorporates the effects plug-ins of the high-end SCOPE /SP system. You thus obtain more than 30 new DSP effects within your recording software environment. The level of computing performance achieved by the XTC hardware permits the use of compromise-free 32-bit effects algorithms, guaranteeing fully professional sound quality. The effects library includes the new MasterVerb, eight separate instances of which can be loaded at one time. In addition to the effects which come with XTC, there are many more available from CreamWare and from third-party developers.

Mixing

Since XTC effects comply with the VST 2.0 specification, they can be effortlessly automated within your recording software. Remote control via freely-assignable MIDI controllers is also possible. One way or another, you've got it all under control.

The XTC effect library includes:

  • MasterVerb
  • MasterVerb Classic

The XTC instruments - pure inspiration
Pulsar XTC includes not only an impressive collection of effects, but also an assortment of extraordinary virtual instruments. You'll find powerful analog synthesizers, which until now have been available only with the Pulsar and SCOPE /SP DSP systems - such as the U KNOW 007, the Miniscope and the Inferno. The EDS 8i is on hand as well to provide punchy drum sounds. In addition, there is the new Vectron Player, an instrument with breathtaking sounds based upon refined vector synthesis.

XTC instruments are fully integrated into the recording software environment, just like VST instruments - including automation, of course. The only difference is that they are computed on the DSPs and thus leave your computer free for hard-disk recording and native plug-ins. In addition, a Pulsar XTC which has been expanded with one of the I/O boards offers Direct Play mode, which allows you to play the DSP-based XTC instruments completely free of delay - just like any real hardware instrument.

Along with the included synthesizers, Pulsar XTC enables you to use dozens of additional instruments which have been developed for the Pulsar/SCOPE platform. The virtual instrument collection alone makes Pulsar XTC an uncommonly valuable extension of your studio setup. After all, when have you ever been able to buy so many synthesizers at one time at this price?

The XTC instrument collection includes:

Blue Synthesizer
FM One Synthesizer
Miniscope Synthesizer
Miniscope MkII Synthesizer
Modular Synthesizer
Inferno Synthesizer
EZ Synthesizer
Uknow 007 Synthesizer

Sampling with Pulsar XTC
The Pulsar XTC software package also includes a full-fledged sampler. We've integrated the brand new Volkszämpler, one of the most powerful VST samplers available. In the form of a VST instrument, it offers virtually all of the features of a professional studio sampler - and a few more which would simply not be achievable in the hardware world. Perfect sound quality via sampling at up to 96 kHz, with up to 32-bit precision. Compatibility with Akai S1000 and S3000, Soundfont 2, WAV and AIFF formats. Sample-precise timing during sequence playback. Extensive editing options, including a deluxe graphical sample editor. Resonant filters and a versatile modulation matrix. And all of it mere child's play to use, thanks to a highly intuitive user interface. The Volkszämpler is an enormously valuable companion to the XTC synthesizers and opens up completely new worlds of sound to you, directly within your computer.

Concentrated DSP power and crystal-clear sound
The Pulsar XTC hardware increases the power of your music computer massively. In terms of audio computing capacity, a single SHARC DSP could be compared to a hypothetical 480 MHz Mac G4. Taken together, XTC's six high-performance DSPs deliver more performance than any affordable computer. As DSPs go, the SHARC also has an extremely large amount of RAM directly on-chip. This RAM has virtually zero access time, which means that the algorithms executed by the DSPs often gain yet an additional speed advantage over algorithms running in off-chip RAM. But speed is not the whole story. Most convincing of all is the sound. The SHARC DSP operates entirely in 32-bit format and directly supports high-resolution floating-point arithmetic - which means it is ideally suited for high-quality sound processing. You'll be able to clearly hear the difference this makes.

Audio I/O daughterboards & XTC upgrades
To expand your Pulsar XTC with inputs and outputs, four interesting alternatives are available. All feature between 20 and 28 I/Os providing absolutely professional sound quality. Complete specifications for the individual boards can be found the technical specifications.

For a complete upgrade of an XTC to a Pulsar II, we offer economical bundles of I/O daughterboard and Pulsar software. With the purchase of any of these packages, all additional Pulsar II features - such as unrestricted and latency-free signal routing or "live" mixing functionality - are at your disposal.
